Kikuchiyo (キクチヨ) was a machine samurai with a mechanized exoskeleton who officially became the seventh member of the titular group after revealing his background as a former peasant.
Appearance[]
Kikuchiyo is the largest of the band thanks to his steam-powered, red and yellow samurai armor-themed exoskeleton that makes up much of his body. Said exoskeleton consisted of kabuto helmet that lacked shikoro, full-face flat visor that let his long orange hair trailing with a large bolt on the left side of the head while the right an exhaust that projects steam whenever he is upset and a mouth through which he eats, jinbaori with a pair of sode worn over a cuirass, green sash, and kusazuri, beige gloves, large gray pants, and metal boots.
Personality[]
Because of his short fuse and the trouble he often causes with both his loud noise and clumsiness, Kikuchiyo is often looked upon as a clown or a bother instead of a proper samurai. Despite both this and his imposing stature, he proves himself to be a devoted and likeable person; he managed to win the hearts of the villagers in Kanna (especially little Komachi, who asks him to become her husband when she grows up, a request that he accepts in return for her keeping his fake family tree) and was also fiercely loyal to Kambei, and when given recognition, he returns the favor fourfold. The full extent of his determination and strength as a worthy samurai could be seen when he gave his life to protect the village from the crashing capital.
Powers and Abilities[]
Kikuchiyo's exoskeleton endows him great strength and resilience, which also allows him to carry his proportionally large sword. The weapon is reinforced by a powerful alternating current and resonating at extremely high vibration frequencies, allowing him to cut through things easily like a chainsaw. While his fighting style is less refined compared to his comrades', his brute strength that compensates it is no joke.
Like other mechanized samurai, he can survive dismemberment provided that his vital parts remain intact, but sufficient injuries can still impair him and handicap his combat abilities.
History[]
Kikuchiyo used to be a farmer in a remote village until he decided to mechanize his body.[1] He then wound up in Kōgakyo, where he befriended the former warrior Masamune.
